Draft Genome Sequence of Sorghum Grain Mold Fungus Epicoccum sorghinum, a Producer of Tenuazonic Acid

The facultative plant pathogen Epicoccum sorghinum is associated with grain mold of sorghum and produces the mycotoxin tenuazonic acid. This fungus can have serious economic impact on sorghum production. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of E. sorghinum (USPMTOX48).

Draft Genome Sequence of Streptomyces sp. SPMA113, a Prajinamide Producer

We report here the draft genome sequence of Streptomyces sp. SPMA113 isolated from soil in Thailand. This strain produces a new modified peptide, prajinamide, which has adipocyte differentiation activity. The genome harbors at least 30 gene clusters for synthases of polyketide and nonribosomal peptide, suggesting its potential to produce diverse secondary metabolites.

Breeding Grain Mold Resistant Sorghum Cultivars

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) is the fifth important cereal crop after wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), maize (Zea mays L.), rice (Oryza sativa L.), and barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in the world. It is cultivated in about 46 million ha with a total production of 62 million t (FAO 1998). Asia and Africa account 86% of the total area under sorghum, but their contribution towards total product...

Draft Genome Sequence of Ustilago trichophora RK089, a Promising Malic Acid Producer

The basidiomycetous smut fungus Ustilago trichophora RK089 produces malate from glycerol. De novo genome sequencing revealed a 20.7-Mbp genome (301 gap-closed contigs, 246 scaffolds). A comparison to the genome of Ustilago maydis 521 revealed all essential genes for malate production from glycerol contributing to metabolic engineering for improving malate production.

Draft Genome Sequence of Bacillus coagulans NL01, a Wonderful l-Lactic Acid Producer

Here, we report the draft genome sequence of Bacillus coagulans NL01, which could produce high optically pure l-lactic acid using xylose as a sole carbon source. The draft genome is 3,505,081 bp, with 144 contigs. About 3,903 protein-coding genes and 92 rRNAs are predicted from this assembly.
